Privacy Policy for Moonlight Sudoku on iOS and iPadOS, and its pages on the Haiyue Studio website.

Last updated: October 10, 2026

1. Who we are

Xueqing Sun (孙学青) is the individual developer operating as Haiyue Studio and responsible for the information we handle as described here. Contact us at qingque60@gmail.com. You do not need to create an account to play Moonlight Sudoku.

2. Game data on your device

The app stores puzzles, puzzle names, rules, filled digits, notes, undo history, elapsed time, completion statistics, language and theme preferences, hint balances and cached purchase entitlements on your device. Your device's local date is used to refresh daily free hints. We do not operate a service that uploads or synchronizes your Sudoku progress.

Named saves can be deleted in My Sudoku. Local information remains until you remove it or the app's data. System backups may contain it depending on your device settings; offloading the app may retain data. Restoring purchases does not restore puzzle progress or earned hint credits.

3. QR scanning, sharing and image export

The app requests camera access when you choose to scan a puzzle QR code. Camera frames are processed on the device to read the code; the app does not upload those frames to us or store a video of the scan. Decoded puzzle content is validated locally before it is imported. The app does not use the microphone for scanning.

When you share a puzzle QR code, it contains the puzzle name and game data, including clues, rules, entries and notes. Recipients can read and retain that information. Do not include sensitive personal information in puzzle names. Purchases and hint-credit balances are not included. The app does not automatically publish your QR code.

The app requests photo-library add permission when you choose to save an exported puzzle image or QR image. It adds the selected image and does not request access to browse your existing photo library. Your Photos or cloud-photo settings govern subsequent storage and synchronization. You can decline camera or photo permissions and continue ordinary puzzle play.

4. Apple in-app purchases

Optional one-time purchases unlock rule packs or the full version. Apple processes payments. The app uses StoreKit to obtain product information, verify signed transactions and determine purchase, restoration, refund and revocation status. Product identifiers, transaction information and entitlement state are used to provide paid features and reject invalid unlocks. We do not receive your payment card number or Apple Account password.

Apple retains its transaction records under the Apple Privacy Policy. iOS purchases are associated with your Apple Account; there is no cross-platform purchase account operated by us.

5. Optional rewarded advertising

Free players can choose to watch a Google AdMob rewarded ad for additional hints, when available. Ads are not automatically played between puzzles. Full-version players do not need to watch ads. Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) may contact Google's services to determine regional consent requirements and show privacy choices before ads are requested.

When advertising and consent services operate, Google may process network and device identifiers, approximate location inferred from an IP address, advertising interactions and SDK diagnostic information. This supports ad delivery, measurement, fraud prevention and consent management. The exact processing depends on region, permissions, consent and SDK configuration.

Moonlight Sudoku currently requests non-personalized ads and does not request Apple's App Tracking Transparency authorization. Non-personalized ads can still involve data processing. We do not condition ordinary play or award hint credits on granting tracking permission. When applicable, use the advertising privacy option in Settings → Unlocks & hints to review or change your consent choices. Declining an ad does not prevent ordinary play or use of existing hints.

See Google's Privacy Policy and Google's explanation of partner apps and sites. Google determines retention of the information it processes under its policies. Purchases and rewarded ads are being configured for the public release; this policy describes their implemented data flows and will be reviewed if that configuration changes.

6. Website, support and service providers

These pages are hosted on GitHub Pages. We do not add analytics scripts, advertising, tracking cookies or third-party fonts to this website. GitHub may log IP addresses for security. See the GitHub Privacy Statement.

If you email support, we receive your email address and the information you include. We use these to respond, investigate problems and handle privacy requests, not to target advertisements. Our email provider processes these messages. We retain correspondence only as needed to address the request and meet applicable obligations. Send only relevant information and remove personal details from screenshots.

Apple, Google, GitHub and email providers may process information in countries other than yours under their own policies and applicable safeguards. We do not add a separate gameplay analytics SDK or sell support correspondence.

7. Your controls and privacy requests

Manage camera and photo permissions in iOS Settings. Use the game's available advertising privacy control to revisit regional choices. Delete named saves in My Sudoku; deleting the app and its data can remove other local records. This does not cancel an Apple purchase or erase records retained by Apple or Google.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection to processing, portability, withdrawal of consent, or to complain to a supervisory authority. Contact qingque60@gmail.com about information held by us. We may ask for the information reasonably necessary to verify and respond to a request. We cannot remotely access or erase your local puzzle records. For data held by Apple, Google or other providers, use their linked privacy controls.

Where applicable, consent is used for optional permissions and consent-based advertising; responding to support and providing purchased features supports the service you request. Necessary security and fraud-prevention processing, and retention required by law, remain subject to applicable legal requirements.

8. Children

Moonlight Sudoku is a general-audience puzzle game and is not specifically directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly ask children under 13 to send us personal information. A parent or guardian who believes a child has contacted us with personal information can request help at qingque60@gmail.com. Parents can manage purchases and device permissions using Apple's parental controls.

9. Policy updates

We may update this policy when features, providers or data practices change. The date above identifies the current version. Where required, we will provide additional notice or request consent for material changes.
